#5 - Why is SEO So Important?
The Importance of SEO
SEO, or search engine optimization, is a MUST for every online business to understand.
It helps improve user experience and traffic to the website. Even if you have a small business, you still need visitors on your website to show your product to the world.
SEO allows your website to rank higher than your competition, so more people see what you have to offer.
Why SEO Is Important
These days, people use Google for everything - product reviews to finding out information and more.
They use certain words when searching and click only on the first few links shown on the result page. SEO helps you get on the first page for those "certain words" (known as keywords).
This is why it's important to keep SEO in mind when creating content for your website.
It is also important for the promotion of your website. Research shows organic traffic converts better, leading to higher sharing on social media.
In today's world, there's competition in every industry, so leveraging SEO can give you the leg up compared to your competitors.
If your website is SEO-optimized, it will help increase traffic to your website for years.
You would't have to worry about paying people to get your website on every search engine. Writing quality content and optimizing your website is all that it takes.
Killer SEO can even reduce ad spend, which is important in high CPC industries (insurance, lawyers, etc.)
While you do have to maintain SEO by always adding content, it gets easier the higher your rank.
The Holy Trinity of SEO
Now that you're sold on the power of SEO, how exactly do you do SEO?
There are essentially 3 kinds of SEO:
This type has nothing to do with the actual content of your website. This is concerned with how search engines such as Google crawl and index your website. You need to make sure that search engines can do this without any problems.
Somethings to watch out for are:
- Does the website load under 3 seconds (preferably 1)
- Is the sitemap easy for Google to crawl? (Site structure of site)
- Is robots.txt blocked (can opt for your website to not be indexed)
This is about the content of the website.
Google is an algorithm, so you need to help it figure out what your content is about by giving it context.
You can do this by using keywords, headings, title optimizations, and internal links.
This is where most of the competition about which method of off-siteworks best.
Essentially, any kind of link building (link from someones website to yours) is considered off-site.
I'll write up a HUGE article about that later.
Further Benefits of Using SEO
I've only touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the benefits of SEO.
There are a lot more, which we'll get into in later articles:
It helps you provide visitors with suitable and informative content. Since these visitors will get to your site by searching for a keyword you have optimized for, the content will be relevant for them.
It helps you get ahead of your competitors.
The keywords used help you increase brand awareness.
SEO also leads to a better user experience. Google now takes a look at mobile optimization, bounce rates, and other factors.
Good UI and SEO now go hand in hand!
SEO is even more important if you have a tough competition. The one who uses SEO is more likely to gain customers and make more sales.
SEO is what helps your website stand out from the other billions on the internet.
Studies show that 75% of clicks go to the first page (first 3 results) so it really is winner takes all.
Since people are typing in keywords related to your website, these are warmer leads.
A person typing in "photographer" and coming across your portfolio is more likely to book a session compared to a banner ad.
Compared to cold calling, SEO has a much higher chance of converting traffic into leads.
It is important to make sure your landing page is top notch so you can capture their information (email, name, etc.)
This allows you to later down the line convert them into buying customers!
SEO comes with many benefits, but you need to do it right. Taking shortcuts (blackhat, spun content) results in Google penalizing you.
SEO isn't hard - it does take technical skill but anyone can learn. BUT it is a full time job. Which is why you should hire someone - like me :)
